Destination Cambodia
Kep
Kep or Kep-sur-mer as the French called used to be a thriving sea side resort town from the turn of the mid century through the 1960s. Beautiful colonial mansions and villas of Cambodia’s privileged class built in the art-deco style shaped the cityscape. During the regime of the Khmer Rouge nearly all the villas were destroyed or burned down and the ruins still remain.
However with its picturesque shore, jungled mountains, quiet beaches and the new upcoming interest of tourists Kep is quickly recovering and today offers a more or less macabre beauty. Furthermore very beautiful about Kep are the surrounding white sanded islands especially the rabbit which is a 20 minute boat drive away from Kep. Also Kep is known for its fresh and delicious seafood, especially crab – literally straight from the ocean onto your plate. The biggest attraction in Kep is surely to enjoy the seafood in one of the restaurants at the oceanfront or to take part in a seaside picnic as the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming.
