Sihanoukville
Discovered by the French colonial rulers searching for familiar homelike conditions Sihanoukville or Kompong Som had been turned into the “Riviera of the East”. In the 1950’s Sihanoukville has basically been hacked out of the jungle when the former king Sihanouk planned to built Cambodia’s first deep water port which is still existing today.
Sihanoukville truly offers the most beautiful white sanded beaches in the country. Palm trees, crystal clear water, nice little bars and restaurants along the beaches, and charming tiny little islands nearby the coastline make the beaches a fabulous sight to relax after a visit to Angkor. Tours to nearby Ream and Kirirom National Park including nature walks or river trip as well as day and overnight trips to the nearby islands, snorkeling and scuba diving, ocean fishing, countryside tours or kayaking can be arranged.
