Corporate Social Responsibility

Destination Asia strongly believes in creating a sustainable and responsible business platform and is committed to ‘putting back’ into the communities in which we reside. Since the first Destination Asia office was opened in Thailand in 1996 we have sponsored disadvantaged children to attend school and university, collected equipment and supplies for orphanages on an annual basis and other activities.

Today our efforts have expanded and we proudly support various projects including:

Thailand

A project initiated by Destination Asia in Thailand is a tree planting project adjacent to the Surin Elephant Camp. The ‘Elephant Homeland Project Surin’ aims to create conditions whereby Elephants and their mahout families may be able to return to Surin from a life wandering the streets of Thailand’s cities performing for cash. In 2008 destination Asia planted almost 40,000 trees of various species which will be a small part of the food supply for the Elephants. We also produced a calico shopping bag for sale and donate a small amount of money to the project for each customer we receive into Thailand.

Cambodia

Destination Asia Cambodia supports the Angkor Hospital for Children in Cambodia where heart surgery is performed correct a common defect known as Patent Ductus Arteriosis for people who otherwise would not have the option of such treatment. This condition was often not detected and if not treated can cause various serious complications. The hospital is recognised as a teaching hospital so local doctors may receive training in order for the hospital to be self sufficient in the future. The visiting specialists donate their time to perform operations and train the local doctors in the procedures to perform the surgery.

Vietnam

We are offering funding to the Center for Labour Education which is an HIV Clinic for Orphans in Ba Vi (Ha Tay — located approximately 40km outside of Hanoi) as this is an area of society very much neglected, particular with children. With these funds we hope to create a better way of life for these disadvantaged orphans by providing them with experiences such as a short holiday together and ensuring their living conditions are improved including food and shelter.

Destination Asia Vietnam is also funding a project run by the Hue Conservation Center to assist in protecting the culture and heritage of Vietnam. This project provides funding for the restoration and maintenance of several ‘nhu ruong’ (ancient homes) in and around Hue, central Vietnam.
