Operations Manager and Director (Siem Reap)

Yeang Sokhon (Khon)

Siem Reap Operations Manager. There is no better qualified specialist on the Angkor temples and the environs of Siem Reap than Khon, has lived in Siem Reap all his life and began his foray into cultural tourism back in 1989 when he joined the small Tourist Department in Siem Reap as a local tour guide. In 1991, he left to join Angkor Tourism, the only government run travel operation in the country at the time. He remained there for three years until the country started to open up and visitors once again began returning to the temples of his joy. An Asian based Destination Management Company soon took notice of his knowledge and extensive contacts and signed him up as their Siem Reap Representative to look after a rapidly increasing market. He has subsequently joined Destination Asia in 1999 and now fronts our expanding Siem Reap operation and is proud to be a partner in the company’s continued drive in developing cultural tourism within the country. Due to Khon’s extensive knowledge and abilities he has had the pleasure of escorting and managing operations for a startling wide range of high profile clientele. These include, and are by no means limited to:

  • MICHAEL FREEMAN, professional photographer who has specialised in South East Asia for more than ten years and has published several critically acclaimed books on the Khmer Arts and architecture of Angkor.
  • STEVE McCURRY, photographer for the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
  • DOUGLAS PRESTON, journalist for the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY BARAKA, filming production (a cult movie focusing on world wide travel through the eyes of slow motion imaging).
  • The WORLD MONUMENTS FUND, a non-profit private organization based in New York City that has under taken The Conservation Project for the Historic City of Angkor in Preah Khan.

We are extremely proud to have Khon as part of the team, and if there are any special, or ‘unusual’ arrangements required for your clients in Siem Reap, there is no man more fit for the job!
