Wat Klang Klong Luang School in Phanat Nikom, Chonburi, is located in a very rural area and receives little assistance from the government. Also, due to its location, those children who attend the school often come from poorer families who can’t provide financial assistance for the school. Working with local contacts, Destination Asia Thailand identified the school as being in need of outside support. It was decided that the library would be the best place to start as a good library would encourage students to pursue their studies further.
A book collection point was set up at the Bangkok office with staff donating old and new books. A donation fund was also established. Over a weekend staff made their way to the school with boxes of books and new shelving, tables and chairs. Destination Asia Thailand also purchased two ping-pong tables for the children and thanks to sponsorship by James Fashion & Gem Gallery, we were able to renovate the library with fresh paint and new electrical wiring and lighting.
