Destination Asia is continuing to strengthen its sustainability journey by working towards group-wide certification aligned with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria.
As part of this preparation, Destination Asia became a GSTC member in 2025 and is building greater internal understanding of the GSTC framework across its regional offices. Team members from different countries are being supported to join the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course, helping them explore how recognised sustainability criteria can be applied in daily operations, product development, supplier engagement and destination management.
Sustainability has long been part of Destination Asia’s work, including responsible product development, community engagement, supplier collaboration and internal environmental initiatives. However, these efforts have developed at different stages across the group. Working towards GSTC certification provides an opportunity to bring this work together under a clearer shared direction, supported by group policies, practical guidance and internal training.
This step is important because sustainable tourism requires more than individual initiatives. It depends on informed teams, structured systems and long-term collaboration across destinations. By strengthening internal knowledge and developing a more coordinated sustainability management approach, Destination Asia aims to make sustainability considerations more practical and consistent across its offices.
This preparation also gives teams a clearer framework for reviewing products, engaging suppliers and supporting responsible tourism practices in ways that are relevant to each local destination.
The journey towards certification will take time, and Destination Asia recognises that progress must be built step by step. Through staff training, shared policies and practical implementation, the company is working to strengthen its sustainability approach and support more responsible tourism across the destinations in which it operates.
