Some of the biggest names in international horse racing will descend on Hong Kong this December for five days of high-profile action at Happy Valley and Sha Tin racecourses.
Running from 9 to 13 December, Hong Kong International Races week opens with the International Jockeys’ Championship at Happy Valley before attention shifts to Sha Tin for morning trackwork and the barrier draw.
The main event comes on 13 December, when four prestigious Group 1 races bring together leading horses, jockeys and trainers across sprint, mile, middle-distance and staying contests.
Organised annually by the Hong Kong Jockey Club since 1994, the Hong Kong International Races have developed into one of Asia’s foremost racing occasions, attracting competitors and spectators from around the world.
For overseas visitors, the week offers an opportunity to combine top-level sport with a wider stay in the city. The contrasting atmospheres of Happy Valley and Sha Tin also provide an introduction to Hong Kong’s deep-rooted enthusiasm for racing and one of its most distinctive sporting traditions.
