Pokémon Takes Flight in Japan’s Noto Peninsula

AS 305x305 (2)

Pokémon fans have a new reason to venture beyond Japan’s established tourist circuits. Noto Satoyama Airport has been transformed into the world’s first Pokémon-themed airport as part of an initiative supporting tourism recovery following the peninsula’s devastating 2024 earthquake.

The experience begins in the terminal, where Pokémon decorations, themed food and drinks, and exclusive merchandise welcome arriving passengers.

But the campaign extends across the wider Noto Peninsula. Attractions and photo opportunities can be found around Wakura Onsen, the Senmaida rice terraces and the scenic Noto Railway, with specially themed trains and buses adding to the fun.

Beyond the colourful characters, the initiative encourages visitors to discover local communities and support businesses still rebuilding after the disaster.

Destination Asia’s 2027 Japan portfolio also includes a new Noto Peninsula excursion from Kanazawa. Combining a farm-to-table lunch prepared by a Michelin-starred chef with traditional lacquerware activities, the experience introduces travellers to the region’s cultural heritage while contributing to its recovery.

For families and Pokémon enthusiasts, the campaign provides a playful introduction to a beautiful and often overlooked corner of Japan.
